Andrew Houser
Front-end engineering leader focused on design systems, user experience, and cross-product consistency.
I lead teams and initiatives that improve how customers experience digital products - and champion AI tooling adoption to help engineers deliver more with less friction. Currently building the customer experience function at Milliman IntelliScript.
Building better front-ends across teams
I work at the intersection of engineering, design, and product to solve problems that span applications and teams. My focus is on creating systems, standards, and shared capabilities that help organizations deliver consistent, high-quality user experiences.
Most organizations don't struggle because of a lack of talent. They struggle because their front-end systems evolve without structure. Different teams build different patterns, components drift, and over time the user experience becomes inconsistent and harder to maintain. That's where I focus.
What I do:
- Lead front-end architecture and modernization efforts
- Grow and govern design systems and component libraries
- Improve accessibility, performance, and UX consistency
- Enable teams through shared patterns, tooling, and best practices
- Bridge design and engineering to ship better products faster
Design Systems & Component Architecture
A component library only matters if teams use it. I establish and evolve design systems that balance flexibility with consistency - focusing on developer-first APIs, smart defaults, and clear usage guidance. This includes building component libraries, defining patterns, creating governance models, and enabling teams to adopt shared systems without friction.
Front-end Platform & Modernization
I lead efforts to modernize legacy front-ends and build scalable architecture for React-based applications. This includes migrating from older frameworks, establishing TypeScript standards, improving build tooling, and creating observability into front-end quality.
Cross-Team Leadership & Enablement
I drive alignment across product teams through communities of practice, shared standards, and direct collaboration. My role is often to be the person who raises the bar for front-end quality, accessibility, and user experience at an organizational level.
AI Tooling & Engineering Enablement
I actively explore and apply AI tooling to engineering workflows, and run workshops to help teams understand the AI landscape - how it affects engineering, business, and product delivery. The focus is practical: minimize cost, maximize impact, and equip engineers to use these tools confidently.
Current Focus

I've trained an AI on my background, how I think, and what I've actually built. Ask it anything you'd ask me in a first conversation — about my experience, my approach to engineering problems, or the projects I've been working on.
What would you like to know about Andrew?
How does he approach building a design system from scratch?
He starts with the team, not the components. The first question is always who needs to adopt this and what would make them actually use it...
Let's connect
If you're trying to scale your front-end organization, improve consistency across products, or build a design system that teams actually adopt - that's exactly the kind of problem I enjoy solving.
